Documenting Lab Day 06/03/23
Updated: Mar 8

Bananascope
Lab day today and we were looking at banana cells under the microscope.
Banana cells (Eukaryotes, multicellular organism) contain starch grains. These were stained using a particular solution which is used as an indicator test for the presence of starches, with which it reacts by turning it a dark-blue/black colour. Starches include the plant starches amylose and amylopectin andglycogen in animal cells.
This is was it looked like.

Slicing and Dicing
We also sliced open a Lily flower to see exactly how it's made up. This allowed us to draw an accurate drawing.

Sting Fest
Now check this out. This was super cool to look at under the microscope. The details were pretty incredible. Nature sure is amazing!
A long and exciting day was had along with extracting some dna and counting the heartbeat of some little pond creatures.
Stay tuned for more lab day updates.
